Foundation Walls Are Up

They poured the concrete yesterday. The forms are all down and we have the beginnings of a foundation. The building process goes a lot faster when you do not have block and mortar. I am really nervous about the sale of our current house. I will devote the remaining days of my Christmas vacation to emptying out the basement. Check back soon for more pictures

Walls Are Up

Just three days after Christmas and the foundation forms are up. By my calculations if the builder keep up this steady pace we will be in the house by May. Yikes, now it is time to focus on putting our house on the market. I hope that can go as smooth.

Movin' Right Along

It has been a while since my last post so let me take this opportunity to get everybody up to speed and the construction. We have closed on the loan as of October 15, 2007. We have completed both Pre-Construction meetings with the home builder.

We are currently in the process of getting invoices from the Water company and Franklin Twp. Sewer Authority so that the tap in fees for the water and sewage can be payed for out of the construction loan. Once these things are payed for KHov can then put us on the build schedule. Once on the build schedule it can take anywhere from 6 to 9 month to complete the house. KHov is now doing everything. The painting and all.

I will post soon with some pictures of the property before any construction starts.

Son, Buy Land

I recall a saying I once heard. It goes something like this, “Son, buy land. Everybody wants it and they ain’t making any more.” This is the saying that I feel best describes the initial stages of the decision to build the Sakai Dream House.

Because we are a few weeks into the process I thought it would be nice to get you folks up to speed. We have been a busy bunch of bees here in Waynesburg. One might wonder what the rush is and to be honest with you sometimes I am asking myself the same question.

In true Scott and Chrissy, form we approached the process of building a house in the same manner we approach most things in life “ass backward”. After a fun filled evening of partying and playing Wii with the Stetor’s, Chrissy and I decided to go to K. Hovnanian to look at the model. The next thing we know we are making plans to build the house and get everything organized and underway by the end of March.

There is a tiny little problem with this time table. WE DON’T HAVE LAND! You heard me correct. We found a lovely two-story that we were ready to move our stuff into, but we had no land. It does not take a genius to figure out that you can’t build a 2,400 square feet house on nothing. Another old saying comes to mind. It has something to do with an outhouse and roses. Anyways, we found a nice lot in Franklin Township and we moved forward.

Currently we have signed a sales agreement with K. Hov, are in the process of final approval with the mortgage company and purchased the lot for the house. Next on our list is to get our current house ready to sell. On a side note; if you have never sold a home or you are not sure if you want to listen carefully. DO NOT UNDER ANY CUMSTANCES SELL A HOUSE. It might be the biggest pain in the butt you will ever have in your life. You got to paint, scrub, re-scrub, repaint, replace, change, fix, put away, throw away, shut up and get out. Oops, those last few might just be Chrissy and I, sorry!

We are moving along nicely. Keep checking in to see what is happening.
